ApexPace

Cookie Policy

Version 2026-08-13

Like most websites, ApexPace stores small pieces of data in your browser — through cookies and similar technologies — so the app works properly and remembers your choices. This page explains what we store, why, and how you stay in control. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. We follow South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Your choices

Strictly necessary storage is always active: it is what keeps you signed in, remembers your cookie choices, and lets us send the right layout for your screen. Everything else is off until you opt in. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Rejecting non-essential categories never blocks access to the service.

Categories and what they store

Strictly necessary (always on)

Needed to run the site: keeping you signed in, remembering your cookie choices, and sending the right layout for your screen. Always on; cannot be turned off.

  • Staying signed in — Keeps you signed in as you move around the app, so you do not have to log in again on every page.A secure cookie that your browser sends back to us, and that other websites and scripts cannot read. Stored as apex_auth. Retention: Expires one hour after you sign in, whether or not you are still using the app; after that you sign in again..
  • Which layout to send you — Records whether you are on a phone or a larger screen, so the correct layout is sent with the page instead of the wrong one appearing first and jumping.A cookie your browser sends back to us. Stored as viewport. Retention: One year, refreshed on each visit..
  • Your cookie choices — Remembers which categories you allowed, so we do not ask again on every page and so we can honour your choice before anything else loads.A cookie, plus a copy kept in your browser's local storage. Stored as apex_consent. Retention: Twelve months, then we ask again..

Functional

Remembers your preferences and shows the map under your activity routes. You can turn this off and keep using the app — we just won't remember how you like it to look, and the route map stays hidden until you switch this back on.

  • Your appearance settings — Remembers how you like the app to look — light or dark theme, how compact the layout is, and your accent colour.Saved in your browser. Stored as ap-tweaks. Retention: Stays until you clear your browser data..
  • Feedback prompts you've closed — Remembers when you've closed a post-workout feedback prompt, so it doesn't pop up again if you refresh the page.Saved for the current browser tab only. Stored as apex.fb-skipped. Retention: Cleared when you close the tab..
  • Daily check-in prompt — Remembers that you've closed the evening check-in prompt, so it only appears once a day.Saved in your browser. Stored as qn:lastDismissed. Retention: Resets each day..
  • Your view preferences — Remembers how you like to see things — how many weeks the plan calendar shows, whether gradient-adjusted pace is on, which optional columns appear in your splits table, and where you were in a strength session if you navigate away mid-workout.Saved in your browser. Stored as ap-plan-span, apexpace.gapMode, apexpace.splitMetrics.*, strength-tracker-start:*. Retention: Stays until you clear your browser data..
  • Activity route maps — Draws the map underneath your activity routes. To fetch the right map images, the part of the map you're viewing — which includes your route — is sent to CartoDB.Loaded from our map provider, CartoDB (basemaps.cartocdn.com). Stored as CartoDB map tiles. Retention: Controlled by CartoDB; ApexPace does not set a cookie for this..

Third parties

When you open an activity route map and have allowed functional storage, map tiles are fetched from CartoDB (basemaps.cartocdn.com); the map view (your route coordinates) is sent to CartoDB to render the tiles. If you link a device, you are redirected to Garmin to sign in; Garmin processes the details you enter there under its own policies. Fonts are bundled with the site and are not fetched from third parties at runtime.

Records and contact

When you are signed in, we keep a record of each consent choice: the categories you chose, the version of this policy you saw, when you chose, and a shortened description of the browser you used. No IP address is stored with it. We keep these records for as long as we may need to show what you agreed to. Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to our Information Officer at privacy@apexpace.co.za.

We use a strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. With your consent we also use functional storage (preferences, the route map) and, in future, analytics. See our Cookie Policy.
